With Health and Safety guidelines making inspection of a roof, for example, difficult from anything higher than a 3m ladder, how do you take a good look at anything that is higher than that, and how do you take a photograph to evidence your report?
Mastcam comes into its own here, because a camera operated from the ground can easily point down to a roof from a height of up to 56’, showing valleys, chimneys, condition of coverings and so on. The setup can be moved to different locations around the building so that larger roofs can be photographed from different angles.
Other types of survey work possible include construction recording, showing the stages of house-build or of a development from above, taking in a number of units. Other opportunities for survey work include archaeological digs; environmental recording on SSSI/SPA sites etc.; sites and property of historical or architectural interest and so on. The list is almost endless.
Key to the process is the portability of the system which comes from being able to operate from a tripod, although it isn’t a tripod in the normal sense. Nevertheless its three legs can be adjusted for varying ground heights so that a rutted field for example, presents no difficulty so long as the equipment is able to be carried there.
